I learned photography through hours in downtown Portland, Oregon, nervously taking photographs of people and occasionally gathering the bravery to ask them for a portrait. I learned photography through strangers offering me advice on beaches and skyline lookouts. I learned photography through a fascination with time and people.
I started with late night photoshoots, lit just by a flashlights and headlights, with two good friends where I pursued any idea that came to mind. This environment fueled my love for light and story telling. This interest led me to Swanson Studio in Portland, Oregon. Swanson studio is an incredible commercial studio producing both stills and motion for brands like Nike, Sorel, North face, and more. Tyler Ashlock, the resident photographer, opened my eyes to the professional world of photography. It was here that I learned the fundamentals behind lighting, assisting, retouching and so much more. With this experience I came to New York to learn under Mark Seliger, a legendary portrait photographer. This opportunity allowed me to lend and refine my skills on large sets for clients like Vanity Fair, Esquire, and more. In post-production I also applied my love for retouching and printing, working on and printing some of Mark's most iconic images.
While I still am a frequently freelancer for Mark, I am applying the technical skills I've learned to create my own unique images that stand apart from the rest. With my interest in commercial and editorial work I've had the privilege to capture the new wave of creators such as brands like LUAR, Guayaki (Yerba mate), and more. With the knowledge and passion to bring a vision to life, I tackle jobs with more ambition than a whole team, delivering high quality and breath taking images with a shorter turnaround time. As I wrap up my BFA at Pratt institute this Spring, I'm excited to keep the ball rolling with new adventures and challenges!
